The preferences in the Folders panel give you access to additional Photoshop plug-ins, texture files, and pattern files from external sources. Also, you can specify where you want Fireworks to store temporary cache files.
Additional Materials (Photoshop Plug-Ins, Textures, and Patterns) target folders containing plug-ins, textures, and patterns. The folders can be in another folder, on a CD-ROM or other external drive, or on a network volume.

See Using filters and plug-ins and Using Photoshop plug-ins as Live Effects. For more information about textures and patterns, see Chapter 4, "Drawing Objects."
Scratch Disks (Primary and Secondary) specify where Fireworks will store temporary cache files, which can sometimes grow very large. If you have more than one hard disk in your computer, target the disk with the most free space as your primary scratch disk. Specify a secondary hard disk in case the primary disk runs out of free space.
